Afrobeats superstar to celebrate new
album with intimate London show on July 16
Ola Akinwunmi
Nigerian music sensation and GRAMMY®
Award-winner Burna Boy is set to perform a rare, intimate show at the O2 Forum
Kentish Town on Wednesday, July 16 — and it’s free for fans.
O2 announced that the exclusive gig,
titled O2 presents… Burna Boy, will be open only to O2 and Virgin Media
broadband customers through a Priority ticket ballot. With a crowd capacity of
just 2,000, the show offers fans an extraordinary opportunity to experience the
Afro-fusion icon up close — just days after the release of his hotly
anticipated album, No Signs of Weakness, due out July 11.
“I can’t wait to play this
one-off show at O2 Forum Kentish Town, connect with fans and come together to
celebrate the new album. I’ll see you there,” Burna Boy said in a
statement.
Known globally for his genre-defying
sound and groundbreaking impact on the international music scene, Burna Boy has
become a cultural force since his breakout 2019 album African Giant. His
fifth studio album, Twice As Tall, earned him his first GRAMMY® and
cemented his status as a global trailblazer. In 2023, he made history as the
first African artist to headline a UK stadium, selling out the London Stadium,
and became the first international Afrobeats artist to top the UK albums chart
with I Told Them…
The July 16 performance will include
fan favorites alongside new tracks from No Signs of Weakness, promising
an unforgettable night at a venue that has hosted the likes of Oasis, Rihanna,
and Amy Winehouse.
Jayd Williams, Head of Music
Partnerships and Sponsorship at Virgin Media O2, said: “Few artists have had
the impact that Burna Boy has had on the global music landscape. He’s a true
pioneer. At his O2 presents… show, fans can expect a real masterclass
from an artist shaping the sound of a generation.”
The concert is part of the O2
presents… series, which brings major acts to smaller venues for exclusive
fan experiences. Past performances have featured Kylie Minogue, RAYE, Girls
Aloud, and D-Block Europe.
The Priority ticket ballot opens
today, June 23, and closes Wednesday, July 4. Eligible customers can enter via
the Priority app or website. Winners will receive a pair of free tickets to
what is set to be one of the summer’s most memorable live music moments.
For those lucky enough to attend,
this won’t just be a concert — it’ll be a piece of history.
