Oshiomole’s Suspension: I am vindicated – APC Chieftain

The Director General of Voice of Nigeria and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Osita Okechukwu has described the Court of Appeal judgement upholding the suspension of the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole as a vindication of his position.

Reacting to the appellate court order, Okechukwu in a statement titled “Is a Daniel come to judgement?” in Abuja on Tuesday night.According to the VON boss, ” It is good riddance to bad rubbish. He was playing God. One is vindicated, as I had maintained that Comrade Adams was no more a valid chairman of our great party.

“That out of narcissism he glossed over his valid suspension by his ward executive and with culture of impunity failed to adhere to the provisions of APC Constitution. A man who lost his ward, LGA and State Exco has no reason to remain chairman. The good thing is that his suspension will afford a golden opportunity for the leadership of our party to overhaul and reposition our great party along the core progressive tenets, as we enshrined during merger in our constitution.

“Lets be frank, and do a careful review of Adams stewardship and take our party as a company in stock market.

Trump To Sign Police Reform Executive Order

U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Tuesday that will seek to improve how police officers treat African Americans and others by improving credentialing, training and mental health resources, administration officials said.

The order comes after Trump has struck a strict "law and order" tone in his response to protests around the country sparked by the death of African American George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis.

Trump has faced criticism from Democrats for his response and some allies are concerned that his handling of the protests and the coronavirus pandemic are hurting his and other Republican leaders' chances of re-election in November.

Senior administration officials said the order will aim to incentivize police departments to improve by tying federal approval of discretionary grants to good policing practices.

The order would encourage police departments to employ the latest standards for use of force; improve information sharing so that officers with shoddy records are not hired without their backgrounds being known and add social workers to law enforcement responses to non-violent cases involving drug addiction and homelessness, officials said.

"We're going to be talking about things that we've been watching and seeing for the last month and we're going to have some solutions," Trump told reporters on Monday.

Law enforcement officials and families of people who have been killed by police are expected to be part of the event where Trump will sign the order.

Lawmakers in Congress are also working on legislative responses to the calls for police reform.

"Certainly we can add on to what we do by the work that's being done in the House and in the Senate," Trump said.

‘How livestock industry can hit N50 trillion in 10 years

The Nigeria Institute of Animal Science has said the country’s livestock industry value could rise to at least N50 trillion over the next decade, if it maintains its current 12.7 per cent annual growth rate.

Its Director-General Prof Eustace Iyayi said for this to happen, the right structures must be put in place.

These include: proper infrastructure for value chain development, expansion and sustenance, financing, research and development for new breeds, and capacity development of operators.

According to a statement, the Don said the country’s livestock industry is currently valued at N30 trillion, which is approximately 20 percent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This, he estimated, will rise to more than 30 percent at the rate of the 10-year projected figure against today’s GDP.

Iyayi lamented that despite the industry’s large size, it is still grossly under-producing

“We are grossly under producing because we still import 70 percent of our beef and 25 percent of poultry. We consume about 1.3 million metric tons of milk annually and 60 percent of it is imported,” he said.

He explained that the feeds industry alone is a multi-billion naira one, with the poultry subsector worth N1.6 trillion.

“We see the industry growing to a net worth of about N50 trillion in the next decade if all the right structures are put in place,” Iyayi stressed.

Police Officers Have to 'Relearn How to Police- Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg is speaking out about systemic racism and police brutality in the U.S. — and how to bring about real change.

The View moderator talked about the state of the country on Sunday’s Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, including how racism starts early, infiltrating the minds of young kids, as well as how to overhaul police departments and “reteach ... how to police again.”

“Well, racism is in the heart of the country,” said Goldberg, 64. “You can't get away from it. Children are taught it without realizing that that's what they're learning. So, the first thing that has to happen is people have to first look at people and see them for who they are, not for who they fear they are, but for who they actually are.”

And in the wake of the deaths of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others by police, she said that policing needs to change.

“The good cops have to call out bad behavior, so we can get rid of the bad cops,” Goldberg said. “And reteach police departments around the country how to police again. Because now they're soldiers, and we're not in a war. We’re not in wars in our towns and neighborhoods. So they must relearn how to police. And that is going to take the action of the federal government. But we have a guy” — referring to Donald Trump— “who doesn’t believe that there is institutionalized racism.”
