Obatala, often hailed as the "King of the White Cloth"
(Oba funfun), is widely regarded as the creator of the human body and the
shaper of humanity. According to Yoruba mythology, when Olodumare, the Supreme
Being, tasked the Orisha with bringing the world into existence, it was Obatala
who descended with the "bag of creation" and began the meticulous
work of forming the earth and populating it with life. He is credited with sculpting
the first humans from clay, breathing life into them at Olodumare's command.
This pivotal role establishes him as the ultimate artisan, the divine craftsman
responsible for the very form and essence of human beings.
His association with purity, peace, and wisdom is paramount.
Obatala's color is white, symbolizing purity, truth, and moral impeccability.
His followers, known as "Omo Obatala" (children of Obatala), often
